Heather's Story - Bachelor of Business (Hospitality Management)

Adelaide-based food entrepreneur and TAFE SA graduate, Heather Day credits her industry success to the higher education level of learning in the Bachelor degree.  The 2016 Masterchef top-10 finalist and owner of Hey Day Butter said the bachelor qualification gave her credibility in the industry and confidence in the workplace.

Heather, who completed the Bachelor of Business (Hospitality Management) at TAFE SA,  says her career successes are due to knowing that she had the underpinning knowledge needed to make an impact and be a leader. She believes TAFE SA doesn’t just get you job ready, it gets you life ready.

Heather has now returned to TAFE SA to complete her Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery (SIT40516) so she can become a qualified chef.

Rodrigo's Story - Associate Degree in Electronic Engineering

Rodrigo Marino has always been fascinated by how things work, so he decided to become an engineer. While studying in his home city of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, he discovered Adelaide when he spent a year on exchange at Flinders University. He fell in love with the city, and chose to return to study an Associate Degree in Electronic Engineering at TAFE SA.

The strong foundation in mathematics and physics, combined with small class sizes, highly qualified teachers and course affordability added up to a winning combination for Rodrigo. He found work as an engineer with local firm Redarc, who sponsored him to stay on in Adelaide.

Ben's Story - Certificate III in Media

Ben Holen took the first step towards his career while he was still at high school with a Certificate II in IT. After leaving school he returned to TAFE SA to study a Certificate III in Media and this was the spark that inspired him to a career creating the amazing images we see on our screens. 

Ben went on to study the Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media (Specialising in CGI & VFX).  He says the hands-on nature of the education at TAFE SA kept his interest in the subject matter focused. His qualification and industry contacts generated during his time at TAFE SA soon led to him securing a role with Rising Sun Pictures, where he now works as a Junior Effects Artist. His film and TV credits include the recent X-Men movies and Game of Thrones season six, among others.

Kristin’s Story - Certificate III in Laboratory Skills

Dr Kristin Carson studied a Certificate III in Laboratory Skills at TAFE SA, which led to work and further study in the medical field. She now works as a Senior Medical Research Scientist at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Kristin credits TAFE SA as having taught her passion, which she combines with her scientific knowledge to make a difference to patients’ lives through her work as a research scientist at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital. TAFE SA's emphasis on the importance of employment during training reinforces the practical on-the-job skills learnt in class and Kristin was able to enrol in a university PhD directly as a result of studying at TAFE SA.
