Description

Learn remote desktop support skills while undertaking work experience at DXC Technology. At the start of the course you will undertake induction training full-time for 3 weeks covering work-placement guidelines, service-desk culture, communication techniques, call simulations and remote desktop simulations. You will then present for work experience at DXC Technology for 2 to 3 days per week over a 6-month period.

Entry Recommendations

The IT skills assessment covers the skills and knowledge required in the Certificate III in Information Technology and evaluates basic skills in:

  • Hardware
  • Software including operating systems
  • Programming
  • Helpdesk customer support
  • Communication and business skills

Attendance Requirements (subject to change)
Full time study is around 20 hours of class time a week with 15 to 20 hours of self directed study for Stage 1 Full time study is around 12 hours of class time a week with 10 – 12 hours of self directed study for Stage 2. Stage 2 also includes another 10 works of Work Experience, equivalent to 2 days per week.

Industry Conditions and Skills
You will need a webcam and the hardware to run the class resources. We recommend the following as the minimum needed; Intel i5 CPU or equivalent AMD, 16GB of RAM, 1Tb SSD, internet access, webcam, headset with microphone.

Additional Uniforms, Equipment and Costs

  • $300.00 (approximate) for 1TB SSD portable hard drive, webcam, and headset with microphone.
  • You will need access to a computer and a good internet connection as you will be using virtual machines for learning activities and assessments.
  • Virtual machines are obtained from your campus or the internet.
  • Virtual machine file sizes vary but are generally above 20GB.

Mandatory Requirements
To be eligible for industry placement with DXC Technology students must:

  • either hold permanent residency or Australian citizenship
  • have a Current National Criminal Check and Working with Children Check (DCSI)

    Certificate IV Program in IT (Systems Administration Support) - Industry Work Experience Program
    This course, offered in partnership with DXC technology, offers the benefit of both classroom training and real-world work experience. The focus will be on remote desktop support skills and includes a significant vocational placement at DXC Technology premises (Felixstow). Students study at TAFESA and undertake work experience at DXC simultaneously for most of this course. To complete the qualification you are required to complete all 5 core units and 15 elective units.
