Come and check out “Contemplating Dream Shadows”, Zen Photography Exhibition in the Light Square Gallery at Adelaide College of the Arts TAFE, running from Saturday 26th April to Friday 2nd May, 10:30am-4pm.
"Contemplating Dream Shadows" – Illuminating Prajna through Light and Shadow, Connecting Eastern Aesthetics with Modern Culture, hosted by SA Zhu-Lin Buddhist Association and co-organised by BHG Global and Auriga Capital, will lead audiences into the Zen world captured through the lens of Venerable Master Jiewen, the abbot of SA Zhu-Lin Buddhist Association.
As the abbot of SA Zhu-Lin Buddhist Association, Venerable Master Jiewen infuses his photography with Zen meditation experiences, capturing moments of eternal Buddhist significance through his lens. His works interpret Eastern philosophical concepts like "one flower, one world" through Zen composition and the interplay of light and shadow. The exhibition specially presents the abbot's captures of serene spaces and fleeting moments of light during his time living and spreading Buddhist teachings in Australia, creating cross-cultural spiritual resonance through small scenes.
This exhibition is guided by the concept of "Zen narrative," dividing the gallery into three realms: "Seeking the Way," "Childlike Heart," and "Harmony." It showcases the dialogue between Buddhism and art and represents the rebirth of Eastern wisdom in contemporary contexts. Since the Tang and Song dynasties, Buddhist culture has consistently used aesthetics as a vessel to reach the world. Venerable Master Jiewen's photographic language inherits the interplay of emptiness and substance from Eastern aesthetics while allowing Zen to directly touch people's hearts through visual perception.
