Description

If performance is your passion, take it to the world stage with the Bachelor of Creative Arts (Dance). Delivered in partnership with Flinders University and TAFE SA, this rigorous course explores the practical and theoretical elements of dance. Refine your skills as you study dancing at this elite level. Learn the technical and creative facets of dance along with body conditioning and wellbeing. Your studies will include classical and contemporary dance, together with acting, anatomy, kinesiology, history of dance, music composition, and production techniques. You’ll train in the state-of-the-art rehearsal and performance spaces at the Adelaide College of the Arts, our flagship creative campus. Take your place on the world stage as a professional dancer or choreographer.

Course Admission Requirements

  • Satisfactory performance in an audition

and

  • Any Certificate III or higher
  • Satisfactory achievement in the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT)
  • Successful completion of SACE (year 12) results (or equivalent) achieving an ATAR of 60 or above

Attendance Requirements (subject to change)

  • Semester 1 commencing 3rd February 2025
  • Semester 2 commencing 21st July 2025

Vocational Placements
70 hours - During the Advanced Diploma of Dance students will undertake industry secondment as part of the unit CUAIND601 – Work professionally in the creative arts industry. There is a minimum requirement of 2 placements.

    Graduates of the Dance stream will have the necessary technique and skills to establish careers as performers, choreographers, artistic directors of dance companies, collaborators, community dance project directors, curators, producers, teachers, dance researchers and artistic leaders in a wide range of contexts locally, nationally and internationally.

    This course is designed to prepare and introduce students to a pre-professional performing arts career. It provides skills and qualities to lead the stage in performing arts, and the education to be competitive in the industry. To complete the qualification you are required to complete all 6 core units and 7 elective units.

    Performance is combined with study of the theoretical knowledge that is essential for gaining employment and building skills as a professional dancer. The course has a strong emphasis on performance and on realising productions for public presentation and equips you with comprehensive professional skills in the areas of major employment in the entertainment industry, realistic dance techniques, devised movement practices, dance project realisation, choreography and stage performance. The course introduces you to areas of development and increasing importance in the Australian industry encouraging you to work as a conceptual artist through courses specialising in techniques of group devising, auto-performance and choreography and develops your awareness of the relevance of these discourses to professional practice.
