AMPSS00018 - Game Harvester Skill Set

Description

This Skill Set covers the skills and knowledge to shoot and harvest wild game animals.

Topics include hygiene and sanitation, an overview of the wild game meat industry, operating a game harvesting vehicle, eviscerating, inspecting and tagging wild game and using firearms.

The course involves a component of training and assessment support material to read through and six assignments to complete before participating in the practical assessment with a TAFE approved wild game harvester. The practical component will be organised between the student and the lecturer and will involve travel to either Laura or Port Augusta. Students will be responsible for any accommodation and/or meals associated with the practical assessment.

    > Q-Fever Vaccination (student responsible for organising and payment of this vaccination. Approx. cost $300)
    > Firearm License - if you do not have your Firearm License - Please visit police.sa.gov.au for application process, alternatively visit your closet SAPOL station.

  • Apply hygiene and sanitation practices (AMPCOR202)

    Overview wild game meat industry (AMPG300)

    Operate a game harvesting vehicle (AMPG301)

    Eviscerate, inspect and tag wild game carcase in the field (AMPG302)

    Use firearms to harvest wild game (AMPG306)

    Sharpen knives (AMPX209)

  • Students will be responsible for arranging their own self-insurance (to cover all WHS tasks and public liability)

    The following uniform & equipment is required (at students expense):
    - Ear muffs/plugs
    - Clean clothes/overalls
    - Knives/steel/pouch and belt
    - Head torch

    Students will need to undertake 60 hrs of Vocational Placement with a Licenced Harvester (at own cost) as this is a course requirement.

    After the completion of the Game Harvester course you will be required to undertake an Accuracy Accredited course – at a cost of $220. Further information will be provided to you by the lecturer after registration.

Short Course Delivery Locations Some short courses can provide accreditation for industry-specific registration, while others merely provide skills and knowledge in the subject area. Concession prices are available for some courses.
